so this past Saturday was my first experience in a beat battle at the peacock bar and lounge in Toledo. shit was pretty cool, unorganized but pretty cool. well i shouldn't say unorganized because it had a pretty good layout with 16 competitors but the funny part about this was the mixing of genres. i was told to be prepared for any type of music but should i have too?
club music is cool and all but the sounds usually associated with it are common... real common... so common that i heard the sound several times over that night. bothersome, repetitive and lacking but pleases the "hood" crowd well enough for a win. i say hood crowd because i no longer belong to that crowd... a child of the 80s spoiled by the 90s and heres the 00's and the hood is so one dimensional that you can predict what could go down before it happens.
i lost... not in a one round knock out but in a guns blazing with bombs falling from the sky kind of way. it was live tho. cuz i dropped a banger of a track that got alot of respect from others. yet i fucked up by forgetting to check the mixes on my other tracks and i think that contributed to my lost... other than the fact that the two cats i went up against were vets of the sport and played dance type tracks which i shun.
still a great night.. ill have to think about doing it again... but maybe in my own way... watching youtube vids i shouldve known what to expect... meh fuck it... back to the beats
